almost a winter after my grandma died our friend nicole lost her aunt. while we were watching her kids during the service i wanted to write something for her family that would give them hope. i started a poem but chickened out and didn't give it to her.

one month later one of my good friends josiah lost his wife heidi. i knew i had to write this song. there was too much pain around me not to. i came home and wrote the music on the piano and spent the next few days recording and mixing it. i wrote the next few verses for jo and used the poem i had written for nicole in the song as verse 3.

before heidi died she wrote on her mirror in lipstick "light bulbs burn out but our spirits depart" i had just remembered that story as i finished recording and decided to go back and put a piece of her and the line at the end of the song.

death is a part of life but it really sucks. in Christ there is hope. in Christ there is life after we leave this one.
